About the People

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I am the president and CEO of Canam Solutions, and also a Director of Canam Software.  I set the strategic direction, provide the resources, and enable the team who does the real work to implement Toromont software business solutions for our Cat dealer customers.  I am one of the founding partners of Canam, and so have been with the company since we created it in 1994.

What did you do before working for Canam?
 I was a partner in another Toronto software company called Castek for one year, and before that was an IT professional for Imperial Oil, the Canadian version of Exxon.  I have spent my entire career in IT, over 30 years in the business.  When I learned to program, we were using punched cards!

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
 I have a Bachelor of Mathematics degree, majoring in Computer Science, from the University of Waterloo, class of 1977 (when microcomputers were just invented!)

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam? 
I am a huge Toronto Maple Leafs hockey fan, a burden I have carried since moving to Canada from the United States and discovering hockey as a 13-year old kid in 1968. I have never seen the Leafs win a Stanley Cup, and I doubt I ever will. I also play golf and tennis at a very mediocre level, and like to spend time at the cottage on the lake up north. I am addicted to the TV show 24, and have also been known to spend some time on the Xbox 360. I was born in Columbus Ohio, and have dual citizenship in Canada and the United States. I have a wife and two daughters - one who just got her masters degree in social work, and the other who has made me a grandfather for the first time - my grandson Owen is one of the great joys of my life!"

What do you do at canam?
I am the Chief Financial Officer for Canam Solutions and also a member of the board of Directors. I am actively involved with the finance, accounting and contractual aspects of bringing our software solutions to our customer community. I also have a strong business and IT background and offer those insights whenever possible in an attempt to ensure our customers are always delighted. I have been with Canam in various capacities since late 1994.

What did you do before working for Canam?
Before working for Canam I held various technical and senior management positions with Imperial Oil (the northern affiliate of Exxon Corp.), both in Information Technology and in operational business roles.

What is your educational background?
I have an Honours Computer Science degree and also an Honours Bachelors degree in pure Mathematics. I also have extensive training in contract law, total quality management and all aspects of operations management.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working at Canam Software Labs, Inc.
I am an avid sports fan and musician. When not watching my favourite sports team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, I am at the rink coaching my son’s hockey team. I have played the guitar and saxophone from the time I was 9 years old and, in addition to a full time career, played in a band for 20+ years. I am also an avid car enthusiast.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I have been with the Canam group of companies since Feb 2002. My official title is Office Manager, but my duties vary widely. I am responsible for the overall accounting of both companies.

What did you do before working for Canam?
Before I came to Canam, I have worked for other companies as Accounting Manager, Branch Administrator, etc. (all roles in the same field)

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
My education background is in accounting. I have attended classes at the Certified General Accountants of Ontario and various accounting software programs.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam? 
I have a blended family of 4 children, 3 grand-children and no pets. When I am not at work, and not being Super Mom, I enjoy gardening, reading and am a SUDOKU addict.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
In October 2006 I joined Canam as the Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, responsible for all sales activities and ongoing customer relationships.  I work with our customers to help them understand how our software products can be implemented as business solutions for their dealership.     

What did you do before working for Canam?
Many years of my career have been spent working in the Caterpillar world…20 in total.  That included 8 years with Powell Equipment in Winnipeg (now Toromont), and more recently with Finning (Canada) for 8 years.  In between these two dealer roles I’ve worked in the steel distribution industry, owned two retail franchise businesses in the cosmetic industry, and spent 4 years working for Caterpillar Financial Services in western Canada.       

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
My education is in Financial Management and Business Administration, with many years experience in the Credit and Finance field, as well as in marketing and direct sales.  I’ve had many different roles over my career, but my passions are in the Sales and Marketing arena!

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam? 
I live in Alberta and love spending time in the mountains, hiking or just enjoying the view.  I love to travel, hang out on warm beaches and explore new things.  When I’m at home I love to cook, entertain and experience new adventures with food and wine.  Music is one of my passions, although I’ve never been any good at playing it, I’m a big fan of Blues, Classical and lots of stuff in between.  I’m also a closet Scrabble player and carry a constant hope of being able to win against my Mom.  I’m also an Edmonton Oilers fan, which competes directly with the Toronto Maple Leaf fans in the Canam office…

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I joined Canam Solutions in August 2006 as Chief Software Architect. I oversee all technical aspects of dealers’ system implementations, configuration and customization. I also lead the development of new modules and applications.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I worked for Toromont Industries since 1998 as Business Analyst/Senior Developer. During these 8 years I was part of the team which designed and developed the core systems which are currently implemented in many CAT dealerships around North America: X framework, Sales Link, iQuote, SMA and others.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
B.Sc., MCSD, MCDBA, MCSE.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam? 
I have two very active and inquisitive kids (Ivan - 6 and Liza – 4) and my life outside of Canam revolves around them. I like to be part of their life discoveries: from playing hockey, violin and cello to spelling, skip counting and database programming (well…may be not yet). I also enjoy playing double-bass with Guelph Youth String Orchestra.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I joined Canam Solutions in May 2008 as Services Delivery Manager. I'm responsible for the management of development resources, project planning and delivery, client liaison and providing expertise and mentoring.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I started my career in IT in 1975, at Bank of Montreal, in Operations as a console operator. In my 16 year tenure at the bank I worked as an operator, project manager, systems architect and senior manager. In 1992 I left the bank and became an independent IT / IS consultant. As a consultant I managed major projects for the Toronto Stock Exchange, Canadian Depository for Securities (CDS), Bank of Nova Scotia, Telus and Dow Jones. In addition, I've worked for CGI and HP as an Account / Service Manager.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I'm a graduate of the Computer programming and Systems Analysis program at Seneca College, survived the senior management program at Bank of Montreal, a certified Information Systems Professional (ISP) as designated by the Canadian Information Processing Society of Canada (CIPS) and a Six Sigma Black Belt.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
I'm a warm water scuba diver, my excuse for going to Hawaii, Cuba, Honduras and hoping to get to Australia. I also love motorcycling and try to get out on my bike every opportunity / excuse I can find.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I joined Canam Solutions Inc. at the end of July 2007 as a Software Applications Specialist.     

What did you do before working for Canam?
I was a Business Development Manager working for Western States Equipment Co. (Caterpillar dealer) in Boise, Idaho. Prior to Western States I worked for a Raytheon Aircraft dealer in Sacramento, California.        

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a B.S. in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a MBA from University of Phoenix.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam? 
I enjoy golf and skiing. I am a licensed pilot and enjoy flying with friends when I am able and I also enjoy jumping out of perfectly good airplanes with a parachute on my back! My activity I enjoy most is raising my three children who I enjoy immensely, Nick, Drake and Mallory.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I have been working with Canam since Nov 2006, as the Customer Support Team Lead of the group.  My primary duty is to provide assistance to the dealers that are implementing our software, with the interface and how functions work.  Other job functions include maintaining the Canam network infrastructure.

What did you do before working for Canam?
Prior to working for Canam, I was a Network Analyst with Harper Detroit Diesel Ltd., and just before Harper, I worked as a Systems Analyst with Toromont Industries Ltd. 

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a diploma from the Sheridan College (now called the Sheridan College of Technology and Advanced Learning) in Computer Science and Technology, that was earned in 2002.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
Outside of Canam, I'm a huge football fan.  You'll find me every Sunday in the fall on the couch wearing a Buffalo Bills cap, and cheering them to the next Superbowl.  In the summer, I also play baseball in a league in Mississauga.  I also spend the summer cheering on the Blue Jays, praying for another World Series victory.  My wife is also an avid horse rider, and we attend events throughout the summer months.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I am a software developer at Canam Solutions. I am one of original team members in Canam Solutions and before that I worked in Canam Software for 4 years (one of the oldest developers in Canam Software). In Canam Solutions, I work on multiple products enhancements, customization, dealer configuration and support based on all Cat dealer customer requests. I also take care of the development of a web-enabled CRM system and Supervision 3 co- op students (foreign trained professionals) from time to time.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I worked as a developer at Open Text Corporation, Canada when I first immigrated to Canada. I also worked in 2 other companies in Japan as a Senior Software Developer for 6 years. Those companies are Create System Corporation, Japan and Produce Media Corporation, Japan. Also I worked on Chengdu Institute of Computer Application, the Academy of Sciences of China as a Control and Software Engineer. I had 8 Publications in the National Academic Conference and Academic Magazines in China. I can speak three languages: English, Japanese, and Chinese. I am kind of an international software developer.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a Master of Electrical Engineering at Chongqing University, China and Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China. I took some Courses towards a Master Degree in Computer Science at Loyola University Chicago. I am a Microsoft certified professional for .Net.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
I like travelling, swimming, playing cards with my friends or family. I am very happy to spend time with my family and friends.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I am a software specialist at Canam Solutions Inc. I work in the IT department customizing the CRM application and setting up the configuration for all Dealers. I have been working at Canam Solutions Inc. since it was created. I am one of its first employees. I also worked at Canam Software Labs’ report writer product line – Turbo Reports and Report Composer for 2 years.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I have 9 years of IT experience and I have worked in all phases of a software projects - including analysis, documentation, development (which is my favourite), delivery, maintenance and support.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a Bachelor in Mathematics, majoring in Computer Science, from the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, class of 1997. I am also a Microsoft Certified Application Developer .Net (MCAD.Net) since 2004 and hold a series of Microsoft Certified Professional certificates.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
I pretty much have different hobbies for each season, during spring I love to take care of my garden, at summer time lots of barbecues, camping and swimming on a lake, during the fall nothing special but I do love the red leaves and during winter, I go skiing, the only winter sport I have learned so far.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I am a software developer at Canam Solutions.  I have worked in the company since July 2006. My primary responsibilty is working on the iMACS application.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I was a software developer at Lingyi software company in China, I worked for the company for ten years, I participated many software projects, for example Calling Accounting System, Business Management System for running water company, ERP for Beer Factory.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of Neimenggu in China, class of 1995. I have MCAD Certification for .Net in 2006.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
I like travelling in my leisure time. In China I went to many beautiful spots. I hope I can travel all of Canada in future.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I joined Canam Software Labs in March 2007 as a .Net developer, working on web-based CRM software. I also participated in development Microsoft Office Outlook automation module. Now I work for Canam Solutions Inc as a solutions specialist, configuring dealer installations, analyzing and merging source code to perform application upgrades.

What did you do before working for Canam?
Before Canam, I worked as an application developer and database administrator for 7 years, mainly in MS SQL Server, Delphi and C#. I have participated in development more than 10 commercial applications in such fields as financial management, business transaction processing and logistics.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a diploma in Computer Science from Shandong University, China. I am also a Microsoft Certified Professional since 2006. I have following certifications MCITP: Database Developer, Database Administrator, MCPD: Web Developer and MCTS: BizTalk Server 2006.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
I have a lovely 2 years old son and it is a great fun to play with him. Besides that, I like reading and playing badminton.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I joined Canam Solutions in late May 2007 as a Software Developer/Team Lead. Because my Spanish background, I lead all dealer implementations with Latin American clients, but I work with North American clients as well.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I have over 15 years of experience as a software development professional, with organizations such as Curomax Corporation (now Dealer Track Canada) here in Mississauga, and Haven Knowledge Systems in Toronto, as well as several firms in Argentina.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have an Information Systems Analyst Degree, UADE University, Argentina, and I also hold the Microsoft MCSD.NET certification.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
As soon as I get home, my 3 kids (and my dog) jump on me, so you can imagine how busy I am when not working. Besides family, I love watching good movies and Emmy Awards winning TV series. When I have friends over, I enjoy humiliating the incautious ones that accept playing chess with me.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I joined Canam in September 2007 as a Solution Specialist. Before that, I worked as a co-op student on a CRM project at Canam Software Lab.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I was a Software Engineer / Developer in Dell (China) Co., Ltd. for 6 years in Software Engineering Department before I moved to Canada. I was involved in many projects on Microsoft platform to facilitate and improve productivity in Dell's manufacture.

I have a degree of Electronic Engineering and certifications of MCAD, MCSD, MCTS.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
Watching TV comedies and Discovery Channel are my entertainment at home. Beside that, my wife and I enjoy company of our friends. Also, we volunteer to help with computer problems for friends.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I joined Canam Solutions in December 2007 as a senior developer; so far my main focus has been working with the EMT application, implementing it at dealers and adding more functionality.

What did you do before working for Canam?
One of the most interesting aspects of being involved with software development is working for various industries and learning how they operate. I have been fortunate to be involved in many interesting areas such as, Aerospace, Airline, Medical, Insurance, Library applications and computerized signs. One aspect that brought me to Canam was the opportunity to work within the Caterpillar industry and the hope to have the opportunity to take one of the Off-Highway trucks for a test drive.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a bachelor degree in electrical engineering from Ryerson University and have attended various training courses. To keep up with the rest of Canam, I will work towards my Microsoft certifications.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
I have two active daughters that are involved in Hockey, Competitive Irish Dance, Soccer, Gymnastics, Music and even Scuba diving. Since I am a terrible dancer and I know something about hockey, I took on the job of coaching my daughter's hockey team; it is a lot of work but also lots of fun. Besides that I spend much of my spare time with my family. We enjoy many different activities such as skiing, biking, water sports, squash. I also enjoy doing renovations around the house and wood working.

I am a software developer here since February 2008.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I worked for AstraZeneca Canada Inc. as a web developer for 6 years, developing and maintaining their Internet and Intranet websites and web applications.

B.Eng in Civil Engineering

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
Playing with my son, Jaden, spending time in gym or playing with digital cameras.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I have been a part of the Canam Team as a Development Configuration Management Specialist since January, 2008.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I have been in the IT industry for 20 years as a software developer. Before Canam, I worked in the company called Simulation and Control Engineering Corporation and NCEPU University in China. During that time, I participated in many projects and I was responsible for the development and implementation of software systems.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Masters of Engineering in Electric Power System and Automation, from North China Electric Power University, China. I also hold Microsoft Certified Professional certificates - MCTS Web-based Client.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
I like traveling with my family and playing some sports, particularly with my son to play badminton. I am a fan and I enjoy watching tennis, NBA and soccer games

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I joined Canam in 2004 as a software developer and currently work as a team lead for the Sales and Marketing application suite. My job is to make sure we keep delighting our customers with state-of-the-art software.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I was a Software Development Manager with Brazil's leading intellectual property law firm and was a member of a committee to define data communication standards with the Brazilian Ministry of Industry & Commerce.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a B.Sc from Estacio de Sa University and a MBA from Getulio Vargas foundation. I also carry a MCSD.Net certification along with a number of MCP titles.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
I love spending time with my family and my newborn son, Philip. I am also a weekend woodworker and love spending time designing and creating custom furniture for family and friends. I recently built my own CNC router, which is a "computer controlled saw". To top it off, I am also an amateur airplane pilot!

I joined the Canam team in April 2008. I will be one of the contacts for customer support.

What did you do before working for Canam?
Before Canam, I worked at Allstream as a Customer Service Rep. Just before that I worked at Toromont for 6 years where I started as a help desk coop student and when I left was the Help Desk Supervisor and Telecom Analyst.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a systems analyst diploma from the Sheridan College (now called the Sheridan College of Technology and Advanced Learning) that was earned in 2001. I have also taken a few courses on management and telecom.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
When I¡¯m not working, I spend time with my family and enjoy playing beach and court volleyball. In the summer, you can probably find me on a beach playing volleyball or barbequing. Winter is spent indoors usually playing video games (I am not a big fan of being outdoors in the cold). My latest hobby involves cooking and decorating since I moved into my own home. My TV is permanently on the HGTV or food channel.

I joined Canam Solutions in October 2008 as Senior Developer. I work in Sales Marketing products.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I worked for Toromont Industries Ltd since December 2000 as Senior Solution Developer. During these 8 years I was part of the team which designed and developed the core systems which are currently implemented in many CAT dealerships: X framework, Sales Link, iQuote, SMA, Pipeline, and others.

BSc. In Electronics, MSc. In Computer Science

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
I spend free time with my family, watching movies, taking pictures.

What do you do at Canam, and how long have you worked there?
I joined the fabulous Canam Solution's team as a Solutions Specialist in September, 2008, developing, supporting and customizing cutting-edge applications for the CAT dealers around the world.

What did you do before working for Canam?
I worked for Infomedia Ltd, an Australian company leading supplier of electronic parts catalogues for the automotive industry.

What is your educational background and professional certifications?
I have a Bachelor degree in Computer Sciences, MBA in e-Business and I am currently taking a Master of Systems Development at Charles Sturt University. I am an Australian Computer Society Senior Member and I hold several Microsoft Certifications such as MCSD.NET (early achiever), MCPD, MCDBA and SharePoint.

What do you like to do when you aren't working at Canam?
Spending time with my family is my biggest pleasure. As a Brazilian/Australian I am into Soccer (Flamengo, a passion) as well as Rugby League (Manly Sea Eagles, the champion of NRL's century mate!). When my two lovely kids permit I like to play in my Home Studio, full of software synthesizers, virtual instruments sequencers and all sorts of audio tools.
