| Software Technical Architecture |
The Canam software solutions consist of a suite of natively designed web applications which have been developed using the ASP and .NET technology set. The applications are powered by Microsoft’s SQL Server database. The software has been developed using a unique Framework, which consists of a set of custom classes, controls, templates and routines that extend and enhance the standard Microsoft .Net Framework.
The design methodology is based on retrieving data from the dealer’s core ERP system including DBS or DBSi versions, SAP, CODA, MS, Rentalman, etc. which are considered to be the master source for most data. Additional data for which there is no ‘home’ in the dealer's ERP system resides within the SQL Server databases.
The unique software design and development methodology reflects a close working relationship with our dealers operational staff. Our applications have been designed with a very high level of direct involvement from our end users. As a result, the software is functionally rich and easy to use and tightly coupled with typical dealership business processes.
In general, all modules are integrated and operate from the same set of data. This means that users can navigate between applications without logging off and logging on to another system. Our environment operates as any web page – a click of a link takes the user to the information they need, regardless of where the data resides. This near seamless transition when moving between applications provides a natural user experience, and overcomes many of the difficulties that can arise from “best of breed” alternatives. The software has no footprint on client workstations, and can run on almost any Microsoft Windows workstation that can run a current version of Internet Explorer. This simple yet elegant solution minimizes support effort stemming from workstation software conflicts, maximizes portability and flexibility, and leverages the power of the internet browser. At the same time, the web browser-based architecture opens the door to many other devices that can run browsers, making them future possibilities from which to access the Canam software solutions.
The software is unique to the Caterpillar dealer world, and as such reflects the business processes, language, and approach that is immediately familiar and comfortable, and dealers will recognize their business quickly within our software.
