Dealer Driven Software – Server Requirements

Physical Servers

Choosing to install Canam applications on physical servers is the recommended method of implementation. Each server application (Web Server, SQL Server) are installed on separate boxes partially due to SQL Server 2005 and its need for processor and RAM resources. As the data size grows and more users are brought online, the number of SQL transactions increases which brings increased load onto the server.

In the general recommendations below, four servers would be the ideal installation platform (although the entire QA environment can be contained in a single server, if given enough disk space and RAM).

Virtual Servers

Choosing to install Canam applications on Virtual Servers (VMware, Microsoft Virtual Server) is viable. However, when provisioning the hardware for the Virtual Machines, it is necessary to consider the other guest servers running on the host. Since all applications and machines are running on the Virtual Server, it is still recommended to use the same specifications and provisioning, as the physical environment. Due to the virtual environment, there will be slight performance decreases across the virtual machines depending on the needs of the other operating systems installed, and their processes. Below is a recommended setup to run the software in a virtual mode.
